What is the EYFS?

The EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) is how the Government and early years professionals describe the time in your child’s life between birth and age 5.

The EYFS Framework exists to support all professionals working in the EYFS to help your child. It was developed with a number of early years experts and parents and sets the standards for learning, development and care for children during this important stage.

It has been recognised that right from birth until 5 years of age children are setting the foundations for a successful, happy school life as well as a time that they are learning essential life-long skills. All early year providers (nurseries, pre-schools, reception classes and child-minders) must follow the legal document called the EYFS Framework.

In 2012 the framework was revised placing a greater emphasis on your role in helping your child develop.
